Overview & background
An ampoule is sealed by melting its glass neck closed, so the sterile drug inside is hermetically protected with no stopper, liner or thread that could leak or interact. For single-dose injectables this is the highest level of container integrity, which is why ampoules remain standard for emergency drugs, vaccines and sensitive parenterals.
Modern ampoules open without a file: a one-point-cut (OPC) score or a printed color-break ring weakens the neck so it snaps cleanly at a defined point when bent by hand, a feature that also confirms the ampoule is genuine and unopened.
