Ceramic-look Sprayed Diffuser Bottles

Ceramic and stoneware have a warm, natural, artisanal quality that suits home-fragrance interiors, but real ceramic is heavier, more variable and more expensive than glass. A matte ceramic-effect spray on a glass diffuser bottle captures that stoneware look and soft tactile surface while keeping the consistency, light weight and clarity-of-finish of molded glass.

The opaque coating also hides the liquid level, giving a clean, considered object that reads as a piece of décor rather than a fragrance product.

A diffuser bottle given a sprayed and cured ceramic-effect coating in stone, cream, terracotta, black or a custom color, with a narrow neck holding an LDPE reducer/sealing plug and a transit cap. The coating is external and opaque; the narrow neck controls reed exposure.

The diffuser base (solvent plus fragrance) does not contact the external coating, but plug, cap and liner must be solvent-resistant and the sealing plug must hold for transport. The coating is checked for even coverage and protected from scuffing. In use the cap and plug come off and reeds go in.

The glass bottle is formed conventionally (blow-and-blow) with the narrow neck, then the ceramic-effect coating is sprayed on and cured in a decorating lehr. Deboss or print is added as needed. The bore is gauged so the reducer plug seals; coating evenness is inspected.
