The cushion compact — a foundation or BB cream soaked into a sponge cushion, applied with a puff and topped by a mirror lid — is a Korean beauty innovation that reshaped base makeup. Using a glass base for the compact adds weight and a luxury finish that plastic compacts cannot match.
A gradient or ombré spray on the glass creates a jewel-like, light-shifting effect, turning a functional compact into a desirable object on the vanity.
Cushion foundation, BB and CC cushions, tinted moisturiser and sun (SPF) cushions, and blush or highlighter cushions. The format is central to K-beauty base makeup and is common in premium, limited-edition and refillable cushion systems.
The glass base is one component of a multi-part compact: it holds an inner tray with the soaked cushion, a separate inner sealing lid, a puff and a hinged outer lid with a mirror. The glass gives premium weight and the gradient/ombré spray gives the finish. Refillable systems let the cushion tray be replaced.
The cushion is impregnated with a measured amount of liquid foundation; the inner lid seals over the cushion to prevent drying, and the outer lid latches. Filling and assembly are specific to the cushion system and validated for the formula. Compatibility of cushion, lids and the product is confirmed so the foundation stays usable over its shelf life.
The glass base is molded (press-and-blow or pressed) to the compact's fitment dimensions, then sprayed with the gradient finish and cured in a decorating lehr. It is assembled with the tray, cushion, puff and lid components into the finished compact. Fit between glass base and the rest of the assembly is the key check.
