The growler is the refillable jug breweries use to sell draft beer to go. The glass handle makes a heavy, full jug easy to carry, and amber glass protects hop-forward beer from lightstrike on the way home. The 64 oz (about 1.9 L) size is the North American standard, with 1 L and 2 L common elsewhere.
Because it is refilled at the taproom, the growler doubles as branded merchandise that carries the brewery’s identity into customers’ kitchens.
We supply growlers to craft breweries, brewpubs and taprooms for draft beer to go, and to cideries, kombucha makers and coffee shops pouring cold brew on tap. Homebrew suppliers sell them for bulk storage and serving. Many venues run them as refill programs, where customers buy the jug once and bring it back to be washed and refilled. Festivals and events use them as branded take-home merchandise.
A large round body is paired with a glass handle and a 38 mm screw or swing-top finish that holds carbonation once sealed. The handle join is a designed stress point, formed with a generous radius. ACL ceramic print is the preferred decoration because the fired-on artwork survives repeated washing and rough handling far better than paper labels, and it keeps the brewery’s logo crisp for years.
Growlers are best filled with a counter-pressure growler filler or a purged fill tube, then capped immediately; a clean finish and a good liner or gasket are essential to hold CO2. Once opened, beer in a growler is best drunk within a day or two. Refilled growlers should be inspected for chips, cracks and handle damage before every fill.
Amber glass plus prompt refrigeration gives hop-forward beer the best protection on the trip home.
The jug body is formed by blow-and-blow or press-and-blow; the handle is formed and applied as a secondary operation, and the jug is then annealed as one piece so the join is stress-relieved. Finish gauging and handle-join inspection are the key quality checks.
