In premium spirits the bottle does a lot of the selling, and weight signals quality. A heavy-base decanter concentrates glass in a thick base, sometimes a sham or false bottom, so the bottle feels solid in the hand and planted on the back bar. Clear flint or extra-flint glass shows off the spirit’s color.
Many of these decanters are kept and displayed long after the spirit is gone, which is part of their value to the brand.
We supply heavy-base decanters for whisky and bourbon, vodka, gin, rum, tequila and mezcal, brandy and Cognac, especially aged, premium and limited-edition expressions. The format is a mainstay of duty-free, gifting and prestige retail, and is popular with craft distilleries stepping up to a flagship bottle. Corporate gift programs use it with engraving or custom decoration, and bars keep it on the back shelf as a refillable display bottle.
The defining feature is the base, either a genuinely thick slab of glass or a domed sham bottom that adds visual depth. Necks are made for a bar-top cork, whose pop is part of the ritual, or for ROPP and custom closures. Extra-flint, low-iron glass gives maximum clarity, and frosting, tinting and deep embossing are common premium finishes. The wide, flat shoulder gives a natural place for a neck label or embossed crest.
Spirits are filled at ambient temperature, and glass is inert to high-alcohol products. Bar-top corks must seat and reseal cleanly, so the bore is gauged carefully. The heavy base adds significant weight, which affects freight cost, case strength and pallet planning, and the filling line may need adjusted guides for the wider base.

Heavy-base decanters are formed by blow-and-blow, or press-and-blow for some heavy bases, with the thick base or sham bottom built into the mold. Annealing is critical in heavy glass, and extra-flint clarity comes from low-iron batch chemistry.
We can develop custom shapes, emboss logos in the base or shoulder, and supply matching bar-top corks and gift boxes. Custom molds are quoted with a lead time once the design is fixed.
