Overview & background
Large volume parenterals (LVPs) are the liter-scale fluids given by intravenous infusion — saline, dextrose, nutrition and irrigation solutions. Much IV fluid now ships in plastic bags, but glass infusion bottles remain important for drugs and formulations that adsorb onto, leach plasticiser from, or react with plastic, where an inert glass surface is essential.
Made from Type I or Type II glass and sealed with an infusion stopper, these bottles withstand terminal autoclave sterilization and present a clear, particle-visible container for a product delivered directly into the vein.
