Large Volume Parenteral Infusion Bottles

Large glass bottles for intravenous infusion fluids — saline, dextrose, parenteral nutrition and irrigation solutions — in Type I or Type II glass, sealed with an infusion stopper and crimp cap. Glass remains preferred for drugs that adsorb to or react with plastic IV containers.

Product Knowledge

About the Large Volume Parenteral Infusion Bottles

Background, typical uses, construction, filling guidance and production notes for buyers selecting this container for bulk supply or private-label programs.

Overview & background

Large volume parenterals (LVPs) are the liter-scale fluids given by intravenous infusion — saline, dextrose, nutrition and irrigation solutions. Much IV fluid now ships in plastic bags, but glass infusion bottles remain important for drugs and formulations that adsorb onto, leach plasticiser from, or react with plastic, where an inert glass surface is essential.

Made from Type I or Type II glass and sealed with an infusion stopper, these bottles withstand terminal autoclave sterilization and present a clear, particle-visible container for a product delivered directly into the vein.

Applications & industries

Intravenous saline and dextrose, parenteral nutrition, irrigation solutions, IV drug diluents and plasma volume expanders, in hospitals and infusion centres, and for drugs incompatible with plastic IV containers, plus veterinary infusion.

Design & construction

A large glass bottle in Type I borosilicate (sensitive drugs) or Type II treated soda-lime, with a 32 mm infusion finish for a rubber infusion stopper and aluminum crimp seal, and a hanger or band for the IV pole. Clear glass lets the fluid be inspected for particles and clarity before use; amber is used where needed.

Handling & best practice

LVPs are usually terminally sterilized in the autoclave, so the glass, stopper and seal are validated to survive the cycle and maintain integrity. Container-closure integrity, particulate control and clarity are critical for an injectable given in volume. Choose Type I for sensitive drugs; Type II suits many standard solutions.

Manufacturing & quality

Large infusion bottles are molded (blow-and-blow) from pharmaceutical glass with a 32 mm infusion finish, then annealed to withstand autoclaving. Produced and inspected to pharmaceutical standards for glass type, dimensions, defects and clarity; the closure system is validated with the bottle.

Build Options

Configure the Container, Closure and Packing Together

A packaging program is more than the glass. Closure, liner, fill process, label area and export carton should be confirmed together before the first sample or bulk order.

Capacity & Shape

Confirm brimful capacity, practical fill level, body proportions and label panel so the chosen size suits the product and the line.

Closure System

Match lug, CT, cork, pump or dispensing closures with the right liner for the fill temperature, viscosity and sealing method.

Glass & Finish

Clear or amber glass, sprayed color, frosting, embossing and decoration are checked against shelf presentation and light protection.

Export Packing

Carton partitions, pallet pattern, loading plan and shipping marks are planned for long-distance transport and warehouse handling.

Stock or Custom Build

Review available molds first, then evaluate color, decoration or a mold change if the project needs a differentiated retail look.

Sample Confirmation

Confirm capacity, closure fit, liner selection, label area and carton protection with samples before bulk production.

Export Preparation

Cartons, dividers, pallet loading and shipping marks are planned for distributors, warehouses and multi-country shipments.
