Overview & background
A metered-dose valve is engineered to release exactly the same amount of product every time it is actuated, regardless of how hard or long it is pressed. A small metering chamber inside the valve fills with a fixed volume between actuations and discharges just that volume when triggered — so a metered-dose inhaler delivers a precise drug dose, and a metered spray dispenses a consistent shot.
This dose accuracy is what separates a metered valve from an ordinary continuous spray, and it is critical wherever the amount delivered matters — above all in pharmaceutical inhalation and nasal/oral drug delivery.
