Product Knowledge

About the Miniature Caviar & Truffle Jars

Background, typical uses, construction, filling guidance and production notes for buyers selecting this container for bulk supply or private-label programs.

Overview & background

When a food is sold by the gram, the jar becomes part of the luxury experience. Miniature caviar and truffle jars are deliberately heavy for their size — the thick base and small mouth feel substantial and protective, signalling value and keeping aroma in.

Traditional caviar tins still exist, but glass lets the buyer see the grain and color of the roe or the marbling of a truffle product, which is increasingly preferred at the premium end.

Applications & industries

Caviar and fish roe, fresh and preserved truffles, truffle paste and salsa tartufata, saffron threads and other ultra-premium condiments. Many are vacuum-sealed and kept chilled; others are pasteurized for ambient gourmet shelves.

The format is also used for tasting flights and gift sets, where several tiny jars are presented together in a foam-located box.

Design & construction

A small wide-ish mouth gives access for spooning delicate product without crushing it, while the heavy wall and base resist handling damage and give the premium hand-feel. Lug finishes allow a true vacuum seal for pasteurized or preserved fills.

Amber, opaque or coated versions are used where the product is light-sensitive or where a darker, more secretive look is wanted.

Handling & best practice

Fresh caviar and truffle are temperature-critical and usually cold-filled and kept on the chill chain; pasteurized versions are heat-processed and rely on the plastisol vacuum seal. Either way, headspace and seal integrity are checked carefully because spoilage of this product is very costly.

Tamper evidence (band or button) is effectively mandatory given the value, and the small rim must be flawless for the vacuum to hold.

Manufacturing & quality

These small jars are press-and-blow or NNPB formed for tight glass-distribution control; the heavy base is built into the mold rather than added later.

Cold-end inspection is strict — rim quality, seal-surface flatness and cosmetic clarity are all gating, because the jar is on display in a luxury context.

Build Options

Configure the Container, Closure and Packing Together

A packaging program is more than the glass. Closure, liner, fill process, label area and export carton should be confirmed together before the first sample or bulk order.

Capacity & Shape

Confirm brimful capacity, practical fill level, body proportions and label panel so the chosen size suits the product and the line.

Closure System

Match lug, CT, cork, pump or dispensing closures with the right liner for the fill temperature, viscosity and sealing method.

Glass & Finish

Clear or amber glass, sprayed color, frosting, embossing and decoration are checked against shelf presentation and light protection.

Export Packing

Carton partitions, pallet pattern, loading plan and shipping marks are planned for long-distance transport and warehouse handling.
