Opal glass — also called milk glass — is glass opacified to a solid, even white with a soft, porcelain-like surface. In cosmetics it signals clean, clinical luxury, and because it is fully opaque it blocks all light, protecting light-sensitive formulas as well as or better than amber while looking far more premium.
The white body is also the perfect background for restrained, high-contrast decoration, which is why minimalist prestige and dermo-cosmetic brands favour it.
Premium skincare, lotions and emulsions, facial serums and oils, fragrance, pharma-cosmetic and dermo-cosmetic (clinical) ranges, men's grooming and minimal luxury lines that want a porcelain-clean look with full light protection.
The opacity comes from the batch chemistry — fluorine or phosphate compounds opacify the glass to opal white throughout, not as a coating. Necks are finished for pumps, droppers or screw caps as the product requires. The smooth white surface takes screen print, hot stamp and frosting cleanly.
Filled cold; closure and dip-tube are matched to the product as for any pump or dropper bottle. The full opacity protects light-sensitive actives, an advantage over clear or even amber glass. Confirm closure and liner compatibility with the formula.
Opal glass is melted from an opacified batch and formed by blow-and-blow or press-and-blow like other glass; the opacity is inherent in the material. Annealed, then decorated in a decorating lehr where fired print is used. Finishes are gauged for the closure.
