Pasteur Pipettes & Transfer Droppers
Slim glass pipettes drawn to a fine tip, used with a rubber bulb to transfer small amounts of liquid drop by drop. Inexpensive and often single-use, the Pasteur pipette is one of the most common consumables in any lab for non-quantitative transfer of reagents, samples and cultures.

About the Pasteur Pipettes & Transfer Droppers
Background, typical uses, construction, filling guidance and production notes for buyers selecting this container for bulk supply or private-label programs.
Overview & background
Named after Louis Pasteur, the Pasteur pipette is a simple drawn-glass tube with a fine capillary tip, used with a rubber bulb to suck up and dispense small volumes drop by drop. It is the everyday transfer tool of the bench — cheap, disposable and endlessly useful for moving liquids where exact volume does not matter.
It is deliberately non-quantitative: for accurate volumes a graduated or volumetric pipette is used, but for adding a reagent, transferring a culture or topping up a tube, the Pasteur pipette is the fast, low-cost choice.
Applications & industries
General liquid transfer and dosing, cell culture and microbiology, reagent addition, sample handling, staining and as a titration aid, in teaching, clinical, diagnostic and research labs. Cotton-plugged and sterile versions suit microbiological work.
Design & construction
A slim glass tube drawn to a long fine tip, in soda-lime (economy) or borosilicate (greater chemical and thermal resistance), commonly in 150 mm and 230 mm lengths. A latex or nitrile bulb provides the suction. Cotton-plugged versions reduce contamination of the bulb in microbiology; sterile wrapped versions are available.
Handling & best practice
Fit a clean bulb, draw and dispense the liquid; these are non-quantitative, so do not rely on them for accurate volumes. Treat the fine tip with care, as it chips and snaps easily. Used pipettes are disposed of as glass sharps, and into appropriate biohazard or chemical waste where contaminated.
Manufacturing & quality
Pasteur pipettes are made from glass tubing drawn down to the fine capillary tip on automated equipment, then cut to length and (where required) cotton-plugged and sterilized. Tip consistency and freedom from cracks are the main quality points for a high-volume consumable.
Build Options
Configure the Container, Closure and Packing Together
A packaging program is more than the glass. Closure, liner, fill process, label area and export carton should be confirmed together before the first sample or bulk order.
Capacity & Shape
Confirm brimful capacity, practical fill level, body proportions and label panel so the chosen size suits the product and the line.
Closure System
Match lug, CT, cork, pump or dispensing closures with the right liner for the fill temperature, viscosity and sealing method.
Glass & Finish
Clear or amber glass, sprayed color, frosting, embossing and decoration are checked against shelf presentation and light protection.
Export Packing
Carton partitions, pallet pattern, loading plan and shipping marks are planned for long-distance transport and warehouse handling.

Stock or Custom Build
Review available molds first, then evaluate color, decoration or a mold change if the project needs a differentiated retail look.
Sample Confirmation
Confirm capacity, closure fit, liner selection, label area and carton protection with samples before bulk production.
Export Preparation
Cartons, dividers, pallet loading and shipping marks are planned for distributors, warehouses and multi-country shipments.
