Screw-Thread Molded Pharma Vials

Not every pharmaceutical vial needs a crimped rubber seal. Where the product is a solid, a sample or a diagnostic component that will simply be opened and closed, a screw-thread molded vial is the practical choice: a robust glass body with a standard threaded neck that takes an ordinary lined screw cap.

The molded construction gives a sturdy wall and a stable base, and the standard GPI thread finishes work with widely available caps and liners, so the vial is easy to source, fill and reseal.

These vials carry small counts of tablets and capsules, powders and APIs, diagnostic and sample vials, liquid and solvent samples, reagent and kit components, clinical-trial supplies, compounding pharmacy preparations and veterinary products. Laboratories use them for reference standards and retained samples; kit makers use them for reagents that the end user opens and closes repeatedly. The 2–8 ml sizes suit samples and reagents; 15–60 ml covers solid dose and bulk powders.

The vial has a straight-sided body, rounded shoulders, a flat, stable base and a standard screw-thread finish such as 13-425, 15-425, 18-400 or 24-400. Type I borosilicate is used for sensitive products and those to be autoclaved; Type III soda-lime covers many samples and solids. Clear glass shows the contents and amber protects light-sensitive material. Caps are polypropylene with PTFE/PE-faced liners or induction seals, and child-resistant caps are available.

Match the liner to the contents: PTFE-faced liners suit solvents and aggressive reagents, while induction seals give a moisture barrier and tamper evidence for solid dose. Apply caps at a controlled torque for a consistent seal, and choose Type I glass where the vial will be autoclaved or depyrogenated. We press-and-blow mold the vials from pharmaceutical glass with the thread formed in the mold, then anneal and inspect them for glass type, dimensions and defects. Thread dimensions are controlled so standard caps seat and seal reliably. Certificates of analysis and compliance documentation are available on request. Options include amber glass, printed graduations or text, custom cap colors and child-resistant closures, packed with the vials in trays or partition cartons.
