An ampoule is a small glass container sealed by melting its neck closed after filling, so the contents are enclosed in glass with no cap, liner or thread to leak or let air in. Borrowed from pharmaceutical practice, it has become a premium skincare format for unstable, high-potency actives.
Each ampoule is a single dose opened fresh, so there is no in-use oxidation or contamination — the core selling point for vitamin C, retinol and other actives that degrade once exposed to air.
Skincare brands use ampoules for concentrated serums, fresh and freeze-dried actives, vitamin C and retinol shots, intensive treatment courses, post-procedure skincare and hair or scalp treatments. They are often sold as a timed course — seven, fourteen or twenty-eight daily doses in a printed box — and are also used for premium single-dose samples. Spa, clinic and K-beauty ranges are the strongest users of the format.
A small glass body is drawn to a narrow neck that is flame-sealed after filling. A one-point-cut (OPC) score or a color-break ring lets the user snap the tip cleanly by hand without a file, and printed color-code rings on the neck identify variants within a course. Flint glass shows the product; amber screens light. Borosilicate tubing glass is available for the most sensitive or reactive formulas, with documentation on request.
Ampoules are filled and then flame-sealed, often under nitrogen for oxygen-sensitive actives; seal quality is critical, since a poor seal defeats the format. Users snap the scored neck to open, so packaging should explain how to open safely and ideally include a small opening aid. There is no resealing, so the dose is meant to be used at once. Ampoules are formed from glass tubing on converting machines that shape the body and neck, then scored or ringed for opening. Seal integrity after flame sealing and the snap-open feature are the key checks on finished product. We can screen-print brand names and dose instructions directly on the glass, add color-code rings, and supply ampoules in molded trays or blister packs sized for your retail box.
