Straight-sided Round Jars

The straight-sided tumbler is the default container-candle jar: a simple round glass with vertical walls, an open top and a flat base, sized to pour wax and seat a wick cleanly. Easy to fill, burn and label, it is the format most candle makers start with for soy, paraffin and coconut-wax candles.

About the Straight-sided Round Jars

Background, typical uses, construction, filling guidance and production notes for buyers selecting this container for bulk supply or private-label programs.

Overview & background

The straight-sided tumbler is to candle making what the mason jar is to preserving — the simple, dependable default. Its vertical walls let wax shrink and release cleanly, its flat base keeps the wick centred for an even burn, and its open mouth makes pouring and trimming easy. Almost every candle range includes a version of it.

Because the shape is so neutral, it becomes a blank canvas: brands differentiate through glass color, frosting, lids and labels rather than the silhouette itself.

Applications & industries

Container candles in soy, coconut, paraffin and blended waxes, with cotton or wood wicks. It serves private-label and artisan candle makers, spa and wellness ranges, and seasonal and gift candles, and is often kept and reused as a vessel once the candle is finished.

Design & construction

Vertical walls and a flat, slightly recessed base support an even melt pool and a centred wick. Candle-grade glass is properly annealed so it tolerates the heat of a burning candle. The open mouth diameter is matched to the intended wax and wick to control melt-pool reach. Optional metal, wood or glass lids protect the scent and add a finished look.

Handling & best practice

Wax is poured warm (commonly 50–75 °C depending on the wax), so the glass must be at a sensible temperature first — pouring hot wax into a cold jar risks thermal shock. The vessel should be sized and wicked so the flame stays well away from the rim and the outside surface does not exceed safe touch temperatures; candle makers test this against guidance such as ASTM F2179. Always advise users to trim wicks and not burn near the base.

Manufacturing & quality

The jar is press-and-blow formed and then properly annealed in a lehr — annealing is especially important for candle glass, since residual stress plus burn heat can crack a poorly annealed vessel. Frosting and spraying are applied after forming. The base and rim are checked for stability and even thickness.

Build Options

Configure the Container, Closure and Packing Together

A packaging program is more than the glass. Closure, liner, fill process, label area and export carton should be confirmed together before the first sample or bulk order.

Capacity & Shape

Confirm brimful capacity, practical fill level, body proportions and label panel so the chosen size suits the product and the line.

Closure System

Match lug, CT, cork, pump or dispensing closures with the right liner for the fill temperature, viscosity and sealing method.

Glass & Finish

Clear or amber glass, sprayed color, frosting, embossing and decoration are checked against shelf presentation and light protection.

Export Packing

Carton partitions, pallet pattern, loading plan and shipping marks are planned for long-distance transport and warehouse handling.

Stock or Custom Build

Review available molds first, then evaluate color, decoration or a mold change if the project needs a differentiated retail look.

Sample Confirmation

Confirm capacity, closure fit, liner selection, label area and carton protection with samples before bulk production.

Export Preparation

Cartons, dividers, pallet loading and shipping marks are planned for distributors, warehouses and multi-country shipments.
