Overview & background
The straight-sided tumbler is to candle making what the mason jar is to preserving — the simple, dependable default. Its vertical walls let wax shrink and release cleanly, its flat base keeps the wick centred for an even burn, and its open mouth makes pouring and trimming easy. Almost every candle range includes a version of it.
Because the shape is so neutral, it becomes a blank canvas: brands differentiate through glass color, frosting, lids and labels rather than the silhouette itself.
