Overview & background
The stubby — known as the steinie in North America — is a short beer bottle that holds the same beer as a longneck in a lower, broader package. It was widely used through the mid-20th century, fell out of favour, and has been revived by craft and premium brewers who want a distinctive, vintage look.
Its proportions are practical: a low centre of gravity makes it stable and resistant to tipping, and the compact shape ships more densely than a tall longneck.
