The swing-top, popularised on Grolsch beer, uses a hinged wire bail to lever a gasketed stopper down onto the bottle mouth. The result is a strong, reusable, tool-free seal that holds pressure — which is exactly what naturally carbonated drinks need as they continue to ferment in the bottle.
Its reusability and slightly old-world look have made it the signature bottle of the kombucha and home-fermentation movement.
Kombucha, water and milk kefir, home-brew and craft beer, craft sodas, tonics, ginger beer and cold brew. Anywhere a carbonated or actively fermenting drink needs a resealable, pressure-holding closure that the consumer can open and re-close by hand.
The neck carries molded lugs that anchor a stainless wire bail; the bail levers a ceramic or plastic stopper, fitted with a replaceable rubber or silicone gasket, onto the sealing rim. Seal quality depends on rim flatness and gasket condition. Amber glass protects light-sensitive ferments.
These drinks build pressure as they carbonate, so leave proper headspace and respect the closure's pressure limits — over-carbonated bottles can fail. Gaskets wear out and should be replaced periodically; fit them clean and flat for a reliable seal. Burp or chill actively fermenting bottles to control pressure as advised for the product.
The glass bottle is formed by blow-and-blow or NNPB with the bail-lug finish molded in; the sealing rim is finished flat to mate with the gasket. The wire bail and gasketed stopper are assembled to the bottle, and the bail mechanism is checked for the right clamping force.
