Overview & background
The tokkuri is the flask sake is served from — a rounded body tapering to a narrow neck that controls the pour into small ochoko cups. The narrow neck also helps when warming sake (kanzake), since the flask is stood in hot water and the slim opening limits aroma loss. A gourd-like waisted form is a common traditional variation.
Rendered in glass rather than the usual ceramic, the tokkuri keeps its ceremonial form while letting the clarity and color of a premium sake show through.
