Pillar and free-standing candles drip and radiate heat, so they are best stood on a plate that catches the wax and keeps it off the furniture. A wide glass plate does this while also acting as a decorative base, framing the candle and reflecting its light.
It is an accessory rather than a candle, but an important one for clean, tidy use of pillar and multi-wick candles on tables and mantels.
We supply candle plates to candle brands selling pillars with matching bases, homeware and giftware retailers, wedding and event decorators, and restaurants and hotels that set tables with pillar candles. Wider plates hold clusters of pillars or a centerpiece arrangement with stones, sand or greenery, and mirrored versions are popular for events because they double the light. Plates also sell well as add-ons beside pillar candles at retail.
The plate is pressed with a flat base for a steady footing and a raised rim that keeps melted wax and decorative fillers in place. Diameters run from small single-pillar plates to wide trays for groups of candles. Clear glass suits most settings; tinted, smoked, frosted, cut or mirrored finishes let you match the plate to a collection or event theme.
Center the candle on the plate and stand the plate on a stable, level surface. Choose a plate wide enough to catch drips with some margin, and do not let a pillar burn down so far that the flame sits directly on the glass. Let spilled wax cool and harden before lifting it off; warm water removes residue. Never leave burning candles unattended.
Plates are pressed and annealed, with checks on flatness, base stability, rim quality and, for mirrored plates, the integrity of the mirror backing. Plates stack for storage and are packed with interleaving to prevent scratches. Custom diameters, rim heights, colors, mirrored backs and cut finishes are available.
