Ice wine and other dessert wines are made from grapes picked frozen or shriveled, which yield very little juice per vine. The wines are concentrated, labor-intensive and expensive, and the slim half bottle reflects both how they are drunk, in small glasses, and how they have to be priced.
The tall, narrow silhouette has become a category cue in its own right, telling the shopper this is a precious wine for sipping rather than a table bottle.
We supply this bottle for Canadian and German ice wine, Sauternes and Barsac-style botrytized wines, late-harvest Riesling, vin de paille, Tokaji-style and other sweet wines. Flint glass is the usual choice because the deep gold or amber color of the wine is part of the appeal. Small 100 ml and 187 ml sizes work well for tasting flights, cellar-door sampling and gift sets.
The narrow body and small volume are finished for natural cork, T-top or screw cap. Because the wines are valuable, the bottle is often paired with a gold capsule and a rigid gift box. The slim profile makes it tall for its capacity, which needs to be built into carton and gift-pack dimensions from the start. A shallow punt or flat base keeps it steady despite the narrow footprint.
Fill cool, with precise fill height: in a 200 ml or 375 ml bottle a few milliliters are a visible proportion of the contents. Sweet wines are sensitive to light and oxidation, so closure quality matters, and flint bottles benefit from boxed or shaded storage. Set line guides for the bottle’s height and narrow base.

We form these bottles by blow-and-blow or NNPB; the slim body needs careful glass distribution to stay even over its height in a small bottle. Each bottle is annealed, surface-coated and gauged for the chosen closure.
Embossing, screen printing, custom tints and matching gift boxes are available, so you can source the bottle and its presentation from one supplier. Custom tints and decoration are quoted per run, with minimums set by the process.
